The PWC, in conjunction with Drexel University's Lecture Series, is proud to announce our second series of Free Forums as part of our Community Outreach efforts. The Free Forums are intended as instructional talks and workshops on writing and are free of charge. They are open to all.

Excepting May 17 at Robin’s Bookstore (108 South 13th Street, Philadelphia 19107) they are held at Drexel University's Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery (on the third floor of the main building at 3141 Chestnut Street).

PARKING: Metered parking on Chestnut, between 31st and 33rd; costs $1 per hour. 
(At printing time, city was considering increasing this rate.) The meters take quarters. 

All Forums will take place from 2-3:30 pm.

Sunday Jan 18: SOME  WORDS ON ROMANCE

Alice Wootson will share insights from her career as a romance novelist, including creating characters, choosing a setting, research, and other aspects of the publishing process.

Sunday Feb 22: THE ART AND THE BUSINESS OF  WRITING

Writing and publishing consultant Anne Dubuisson Anderson will talk about how writers can find their stories, discover their voices, and understand what they need to do to get their work into the hands of book and magazine editors. Drawing on her decade as a New York literary agent, she will offer insights about the art—and the business—of writing. 
Anne Dubuisson Anderson has worked as a literary agent at the Georges Borchardt and Ellen Levine literary agencies. She has represented bestsellers, a Nobel Prize winner, and Oprah Book Club authors. Since 1998, she has run her own writing consultation practice.

SUNDAY March 22: KIDS’ WRITING WORKSHOP

Susan Guill  returns to run this lively and popular workshop to inspire kids aged 7-12. Have your children bring writing pad, pen, and a noggin full of words.
Susan Guill is an adjunct English professor at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, teaches at Main Line School Night and is a humor columnist for The Main Line Times.

Sunday April 26: FIND THE STORY IN YOUR LIFE

Writer and therapist Jerry Waxler will run this workshop on the elements of memoir writing. Drawing on contemporary memoirs, you will learn the four steps to mine your life, and reshape vague and tangled memories into a story worth reading.

Award-winning TV writer and prolific humorist Steve Young will lead this entertaining—and sometimes inspiring—look at satire, humor and wit. He will draw from his experiences in Hollywood, his writing career, and some of the inspirational moments in his book, Great Failures of the Extremely Successful.
Steve Young has served as political editor of The National Lampoon and a regular pundit on the political radio/TV circuit, has been a frequent contributor to the Philadelphia Inquirer, New York Times, L.A. Daily News and blogs. He has written for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Boy Meets World, Cybill, and was writer/director of My Dinner with Ovitz. Debbie Lee Wesselmann is the author of three books of fiction: Captivity, The Earth and the Sky, and Trutor & the Balloonist. Her books fictionalize a wide range of subject matters from world cultures to art forgery to chimpanzee politics. A recipient of a 2001 NJ State Council on the Arts Fellowship, the author now lives in northeast Pennsylvania, where she teaches composition and fiction writing at Lehigh University.
